This was the idea that was given to me after asking ChatGPT about a new design project i could be working on. ChatGPT is a really great tool to generate ideas that take you out of your comfort zone. It can provide challenges for designers to create something they usually wouldn't, which is exactly where the difficulties in design work lie.
Zoey Wren was the persona that layed the foundation of my design project. She was the person I was designing this blog for.
She was described to me as: "Professional Yet Approachable". Zoey maintains a high level of professionalism in her blog, focusing on accuracy, informative content, and appealing visuals. Her posts are well-researched and provide practical tips, making her a reliable source of travel advice.
For this project I tried to put myself in Zoey's shoes. The design was not so much about functionality or usability. The emotional aspects were what matter the most. This is a personal blog, so it should feel personal and distinctly like Zoey. People usually do not read blogs because they seek factual and serious information but because they have an interest and liking for the person who writes it. It is about the story that is being told and about who tells it.
Zoey is reliable and competent in what she is doing. The design needs to feature some modern, orderly characteristics to convey these notions of her personality. I went for a more minimalistic approach with a clear visual hierarchy, pictures to peak interest and prominent Call-to-Actions.
Spread Across the page you find some light-hearted, playful scribbles and doodles. It should feel like Zoey has taken over an already existing design (one that is modern and trustworthy) and has given it her own unique touches. This should connect back to the idea of “Professional yet Approachable”, and give it more of a friendly and less corporate touch.
The blog entries are the place where Zoey's professionalism really starts to shine. With high-quality imagery and clean layout that is visually appealing and easy to understand. This is were people spend most of their time reading. It therefore, should be well structured and easy to read, even for longer periods of time. There are no doodles and scribbles, as to not draw unnecessary attention away, from what people actually want to focus on.
I hope you liked my approach and let me know your thoughts!
